Facing the Spanish Chess Champion Francisco Vallejo Pons, Viswanathan Anand won on time in Round 2 of the 7th Grand Slam Masters 2014 in Bilbao, Spain.
This has allowed him to maintain the lead with 6 points, followed by Levon Aronian with 4 points, Vallejo Pons with 1 point and with Ruslan Ponomariov still struggling to win a point.
With Anand holding the black pieces, he took Vallejo Pons to the Ragozin Variation of the Queen’s Gambit Declined. It was an exciting match but Pons committed a blunder from which he was trying to recover, but unfortunately he ran out of time.
Today, Anand will be crossing swords over the board against Levon Aronian.
