Ruslan Ponomariov records his 1st win at Bilbao

M Ruslan Ponomariov finally got to record his first winning match in the 7th Grandslam Masters Final in Bilbao, Spain.

After losing to Viswanathan Anand and Levon Aronian in the first two rounds, things seemed bleak for the Ukranian Grand Master. However, by defeting Francisco Vallejo Pons in the third round of the event, he moves a rung up and proves to everyone that he is still very much in the competition.

Meanwhile, the much awaited game between Anand and Aronian ended in a draw.

As of this writing, the standings are:

1. Anand, 7 points
2. Aronian, 5 points
3. Ponomariov, 3 points
4. Vallejo Pons, 1 point
